Lord of the Rings - and the skies
Air New Zealand hopes 'Lord of the Rings' planes will prompt people to get on
them and come to visit New Zealand
"Lord of the Rings" will be king of the sky as flying billboards
set off around the world.
Air New Zealand has adorned an Airbus A320 with characters Arwen and Eowyn,
played by Liv Tyler and Miranda Otto coupled with shots of the New Zealand landscape.
Completing the set are three other Rings-themed aircraft - a Boeing 767 and
two 747s.
Air New Zealand marketing vice president Ed Sims says the planes will fly around
the globe more than 400 times.
He says the idea is to help people make the connection between the movie and
New Zealand.
He says the planes have already generated intense media interest in the US,
UK and Asia.
Mr Sims hopes the aircraft will especially target the US where there is little
knowledge of New Zealand.
The planes will visit all regions serviced by the airline.
